Das Passauer Gründungsprojekt „Lesson Organizer” weiter auf Erfolgskurs

Das Passauer Team um Thea Kakavand, Klara Gorisch, Florian Niederhuber und Tristan Schneider hat mit dem Projekt „Lesson Organizer“ bei der Bewerbung um die begehrte EXIST-Förderung den Zuschlag erhalten. „Lesson Organizer“ ist ein  analoges und digitales Kombinations-Tool, das den Unterricht zu planen und Unterrichtsmaterialien zu verwalten einfacher macht. Es unterstützt nicht nur didaktisch, indem es Inhaltsvorschläge macht, sondern ist cloudbasiert als Baukastensystem anlegt und so interaktiv nutzbar. Seit Juni dürfen sie sich über ein EXIST-Gründungsstipendium für die Dauer von 12 Monaten freuen.

Zu diesem großen Schritt haben wir sie in einem Interview befragt:

PATEC: Herzlichen Glückwunsch! Ihr habt bei der Bewerbung um die begehrte EXIST-Förderung mit eurem Gründungsprojekt „Lesson Organizer“ den Zuschlag erhalten. Wie kam es dazu?

Flo: Der Antrag wird über die Hochschule oder Forschungseinrichtung gestellt, also bei uns durch die Universität Passau. Wir haben uns lange darauf vorbereitet und am Ende haben wir die Gutachter mit unserem innovativen Ansatz überzeugt. Thea hatte bereits als Referendarin festgestellt, dass Unterrichtsplanung in der Praxis ganz anders ist als in der Theorie. Sie wollte ihren Unterricht nicht mit MS Word oder OneNote planen, sondern mit einem speziell für Lehrkräfte zugeschnittenen Planungstool. Daraus entstand die Idee des Lesson Organizer.

PATEC: Also ein innovatives Planungstool für Lehrende?

Klara: Ja, genau. Der Lesson Organizer ist eine Software für Lehrkräfte, und zwar speziell für Berufseinsteiger. Unsere Software unterstützt Lehrkräfte dabei, Unterrichtsstunden zu planen, zu verwalten und zu teilen. Mit unserem Tool können Lehrkräfte bis zu dreißig Prozent Vorbereitungszeit einsparen.

PATEC:  Und wer gehört zu eurem Team?

Thea: Wir sind vier Leute. Da ist Klara, unsere Spezialistin für Finanzen und Business Development. Flo übernimmt gemeinsam mit Tristan die Softwareentwicklung und -verbesserung und ich kümmere mich um die Produktentwicklung und Verkauf.

PATEC:  Welche Herausforderungen habt ihr während der Bewerbung für das Stipendium gemeistert und wie seid ihr damit umgegangen?

Klara: Wir haben uns viel Feedback zu unserer Bewerbung eingeholt, was wir auch jedem empfehlen würden. Doch die Rückmeldungen waren oft unterschiedlich, sodass wir erst mal selbst herausfinden mussten, welcher Weg für uns der richtige ist. Und jetzt, in der Förderlaufzeit, gilt es herauszufinden, ob unsere theoretische Planung auch in der Praxis funktioniert.

PATEC:  Ihr habt jetzt mit dem EXIST-Stipendium ein Jahr Zeit, an eurem Start-up zu arbeiten. Worauf konzentriert ihr euch?

Tristan: Unser Ziel ist es, im September 2024 auf den Markt zu gehen. Bis dahin möchten wir sicherstellen, dass alle wichtigen Funktionen stehen. Parallel dazu arbeiten wir intensiv an der Entwicklung unserer KI, die es ermöglichen wird, Unterrichtsvorschläge per Mausklick zu erstellen. Zudem präsentieren wir den Lesson Organizer an Schulen, Seminarschulen und Universitäten und zeigen, welche enormen Vorteile die Software für die Unterrichtsplanung hat.

PATEC:  Klingt nach einem guten Plan. Wie läuft es bis jetzt?

Thea: Eine große Herausforderung für uns ist aktuell der Zugang zu Schulen. Wir möchten Lehrkräfte und Schulleiter dazu einladen, mit uns in Kontakt zu treten. Wir glauben, dass unsere innovative Lösung die Unterrichtsplanung revolutionieren kann.

PATEC:  Habt ihr bisher schon Feedback zum Produkt erhalten?

Klara: Ja, haben wir. Zahlreiche Lehramtsstudierende der Uni Passau und einige Referendare konnten die Software testen und waren begeistert. Das motiviert uns natürlich, weiter Gas zu geben und das Feedback bestmöglich umzusetzen, damit wir ein tolles Produkt für Lehrkräfte auf den Markt bringen können.

PATEC:  Die Gründungsreise und ihre Etappen. Wie fühlt sich das für euch an?

Flo: Lange Zeit war der Lesson Organizer nur eine Idee, dann ein Projekt. Jetzt stehen wir kurz vor der Firmengründung, und das ist unglaublich aufregend. Mit der Gründung kommt jedoch auch eine hohe Verantwortung auf uns zu: Die Firma wirtschaftlich erfolgreich zu machen. Dafür brauchen wir Kunden, die bereit sind, in die Zukunft der Bildung Deutschlands zu investieren.

The Passau team led by Thea Kakavand, Klara Gorisch, Florian Niederhuber and Tristan Schneider has been awarded the coveted EXIST funding for its „Lesson Organiser“ project. „Lesson Organizer“ is an analogue and digital combination tool that makes it easier to plan lessons and manage teaching materials. It not only provides didactic support by suggesting content, but is also a cloud-based modular system and can therefore be used interactively. Since June, they have been able to look forward to an EXIST start-up grant for a period of 12 months. We asked them about this big step in an interview:

PATEC: Congratulations! You were successful in your application for the coveted EXIST grant with your start-up project „Lesson Organiser“. How did this come about?

Flo: The application is submitted via the university or research institution, which in our case is the University of Passau. We spent a long time preparing for it and in the end we won over the experts with our innovative approach. Thea had already realised as a trainee teacher that lesson planning is very different in practice than in theory. She didn’t want to plan her lessons with MS Word or OneNote, but with a planning tool specially customised for teachers. This gave rise to the idea of the Lesson Organiser.

PATEC: So an innovative planning tool for teachers?

Klara: Yes, exactly. The Lesson Organiser is a software for teachers, especially for young professionals. Our software helps teachers to plan, manage and share lessons. With our tool, teachers can save up to thirty per cent of preparation time.

PATEC: And who is part of your team?

Thea: We are four people. There’s Klara, our specialist for finance and business development. Flo takes care of software development and improvement together with Tristan and I look after product development and sales.

PATEC: What challenges did you face when applying for the scholarship and how did you deal with them?

Klara: We got a lot of feedback on our application, which we would recommend to anyone. But the feedback was often different, so we first had to find out for ourselves which path was the right one for us. And now, during the funding period, we have to find out whether our theoretical planning also works in practice.

PATEC: With the EXIST grant, you now have a year to work on your start-up. What are you focussing on?

Tristan: Our goal is to go to market in September 2024. We want to ensure that all the important functions are in place by then. At the same time, we are working intensively on the development of our AI, which will make it possible to create lesson suggestions at the click of a mouse. We are also presenting the Lesson Organiser at schools, colleges and universities and demonstrating the enormous advantages the software has for lesson planning.

PATEC: Sounds like a good plan. How is it going so far?

Thea: A big challenge for us at the moment is gaining access to schools. We would like to invite teachers and head teachers to get in touch with us. We believe that our innovative solution can revolutionise lesson planning.

PATEC: Have you already received feedback on the product?

Klara: Yes, we have. Numerous student teachers at the University of Passau and some trainee teachers have been able to test the software and have been impressed. Of course, this motivates us to keep going and implement the feedback in the best possible way so that we can launch a great product for teachers on the market.

PATEC: The founding journey and its stages. How does it feel for you?

Flo: For a long time, the Lesson Organiser was just an idea, then a project. Now we are on the verge of founding the company, which is incredibly exciting. However, with the foundation of the company comes a great responsibility: to make the company commercially successful. To do this, we need customers who are prepared to invest in the future of education in Germany.
