Was passierte?

Am 5. Juli 2021 um 18 Uhr war es endlich so weit:

Das Team des Refugee Programmes der Universität Passau (gefördert vom DAAD aus Mitteln des Bundesministeriums für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF)) stellte interessierten Studierenden zum ersten Mal sein neu entwickeltes Ehrenamts- und Service Learning-Pilotprojekt ALL YOU CAN DO vor. Nachdem die Referatsleiterin der Abt. V/2 International Support Service und iStudi-Coach, Luise Haack, die Anwesenden mit erfrischenden Worten willkommen hieß, lauschten rund 40 internationale und deutsche Studierende dem Konzept ALL YOU CAN DO, bei dem sich interkulturell gemischte Teams gemeinsam zivilgesellschaftlich in der Stadt und im Landkreis Passau engagieren sollen.

Wie ist die Idee entstanden?

Entstanden war die Idee während einer vom Refugee Programme initiierten Kreativschmiede zum Thema „Bessere Integration durch ehrenamtliches Engagement“. In Zusammenarbeit mit dem Projektseminar „Interkulturalität und Praxis“ (Lehrstuhl für Interkulturelle Kommunikation, Dr. Martina Maletzky de Garcia), kommunalen Ehrenamts- und Integrations-Expert:innen sowie geflüchteten und internationalen Studierenden erarbeiteten mehrere Teams innovative Prototypen. Mithilfe der Design Thinking-Methode unterstützten Maria Wilhelm und ihre Mitarbeiter vom Hochschulverbund Transfer und Innovation Ostbayern (TRIO) die einzelnen Teams bei der Ideenfindung.

Was steckt hinter der Idee von ALL YOU CAN DO?

Mit dem ersten Prototypen aus der Ideenwerkstatt, der 5-minütigen Uni-Video-Soap „All you can do“, startete die Zoom-Veranstaltung am Montag und brachte den ein oder anderen zum Schmunzeln. Danach folgten Fakten und Details zum geplanten Projekt, das im Wintersemester 2020/21 als Zertifikats-Programm erstmals in Zusammenarbeit mit zivilgesellschaftlichen Kooperationspartner starten soll. „Im Fokus stehen internationale Studierende, die sich gerne engagieren möchten, aber die Hürde des „ersten Schritts“ oft nicht überwinden können“, erklärte Barbara Bauersachs, Koordinatorin von ALL YOU CAN DO . „Wer sich in der hiesigen Gesellschaft engagiert, fühlt sich schneller heimisch, möchte gerne hierbleiben und nimmt darüber hinaus viele sogenannte Soft Skills für sein späteres Berufsleben mit.“ Dass es bei ALL YOU CAN DO nicht beim „bloßen“ Zertifikat bleiben muss, sondern dass es als Service-Learning-Konzept durchaus curricular im Studium verankert werden könnte, bestätigte der Studiengangskoordinator der Philosophischen Fakultät Dr. Christian Dölle. „Eine Projektarbeit mit ECTS-Punkten zu bewerten, ist in einigen unserer Masterstudiengängen durchaus möglich; genauso erkennen wir aufgrund der Corona-Situation aktuell Service Learning auch als Praktikum in den Studiengängen der Philosophischen Fakultät mit Pflichtpraktikum an“, erklärte Dr. Christian Dölle. „Weitere Möglichkeiten können Sie im Einzelfall mit dem Team der Studiengangskoordination besprechen.“

Tatsächlich hat ALL YOU CAN DO die Vision, das Thema Service-Learning im interkulturellen Team langfristig an der Universität Passau zu etablieren. „Im Sommersemester 2022 wollen wir in Kooperation mit Dr. Maletzky de Garcias Projektseminar „Interkulturalität und Praxis“ erste Engagement-Projekte starten“, berichtet Barbara Bauersachs. „Und wir hoffen natürlich, damit ,Role Model‘ für weitere Fakultäten zu werden.“

Alternativ kann man sich bereits ab nächstem Semester für das ehrenamtliche Engagement ein Ehrenamts-Zertifikat austellen lassen. Darüber hinaus kann man sich sein Engagement im Modul F des iStudi-Pass anerkennen lassen. In welchen Projekten kannst du dich engagieren?

Dass es bereits interessierte gemeinnützige Organisationen in Passau und Umgebung gibt, davon erzählten im weiteren Verlauf der Veranstaltung die Teammitglieder von ALL YOU CAN DO „Man kann direkt irgendwo mitmachen, aber auch neue Projektideen sind bei den Non-Profit-Akteuren gefragt“, schwärmte Masterstudentin Interkulturelles Management Theresa Hoffmann, die den Abend moderierte. In drei Breakout Rooms konnten die Studierendengruppen dann auch gleich erste eigene Ideen zu den Themen „Migranten“, „Senioren & Behinderte“ sowie „Kinder & Jugendliche“ spinnen.

„Ich möchte unbedingt einen Musik-Kurs für Jugendliche anbieten, ich kann Gitarre unterrichten. Bitte vergessen Sie das nicht.“, schrieb einer der internationalen Studierenden gleich im Anschluss der Veranstaltung. „This project is really cool!“

What happened?

On July 5, 2021 at 6 p.m., the team of the Refugee Programme of the University of Passau (funded by the DAAD with funds from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF)) presented its newly developed volunteer work and service learning pilot project ALL YOU CAN DO to interested students for the first time. After the head of department of the International Support Service and iStudi-Coach, Luise Haack, welcomed the attendees with refreshing words, around 40 international and German students listened to the concept of ALL YOU CAN DO, where interculturally mixed teams are to start together social projects on a voluntary basis in the city and district of Passau.

What is the story behind?

The idea arose during a creative lab initiated by the Refugee Programme on the topic of „Better integration through voluntary commitment“. In cooperation with the project seminar „Interculturality and Practice“ (Chair of Intercultural Communication, Dr. Martina Maletzky de Garcia), municipal volunteer and integration experts as well as refugee and international students, several teams developed innovative prototypes. With the help of the Design Thinking method, Maria Wilhelm and her colleagues from the Hochschulverbund Transfer und Innovation Ostbayern (TRIO) supported the individual teams in brainstorming.

What is the idea behind ALL YOU CAN DO ?

The zoom event started on Monday with the first prototype from the ideas workshop, a 5-minute university video soap. This was followed by facts and details about the planned project, which is to start in the winter semester 2020/21 as a certificate program for the first time in cooperation with civil society cooperation partners. „The focus is on international students who would like to do voluntary work, but often cannot overcome the hurdle of the „first step“,“ explained Barbara Bauersachs, coordinator of ALL YOU CAN DO. „Those who are involved in local society feel at home more quickly would like to stay here and also take many so-called soft skills with them for their future professional life.“ The fact that ALL YOU CAN DO does not have to remain a „mere“ certificate but could certainly be anchored in the degree programme curriculum as a service learning project, was confirmed by the degree programme coordinator of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Dr. Christian Dölle. „It is quite possible to evaluate a project work with ECTS points in some of our Master’s degree programmes; in the same way, due to the corona situation, we currently also recognise service learning as an internship in the courses of study of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities with a compulsory internship,“ explained Dr. Christian Dölle. „You can discuss further possibilities in individual cases with the team of the degree programme coordination.“

In fact, ALL YOU CAN DO has the vision of establishing intercultural service learning at the University of Passau in the long term. „In summer semester 2022 we want to start our first engagement projects in cooperation with Dr. Maletzky de Garcia’s project seminar „Interculturality and Practice“,“ reports Barbara Bauersachs. „And of course we hope to become a ‚role model‘ for other faculties.“

Alternatively, strating next semester, it is already possible to get a Volunteering-certificate. Furthermore, this volunteer work also counts for Module F of the iStudi Pass. What kind of projects can you do?

The fact that there are already interested non-profit organizations in Passau and the surrounding area was told in the further course of the event by the team members of ALL YOU CAN DO. „You can participate directly somewhere, but new project ideas are also in demand among the non-profit actors,“ enthused Master’s student intercultural management Theresa Hoffmann, who moderated the evening. In three breakout rooms, the student groups were able to spin their first ideas on the topics of „migrants“, „elderly & disabled people“ and „children & adolescents“.

„I really want to offer a music course for young people, I can teach guitar. Please don’t forget that,“ wrote one of the international students immediately after the event. „Dieses Projekt ist wirklich cool“
